Main Entry: he·do·nismIn the past, I associated 'hedonism' with rampant indiscipline, rebellion, lawlessness and complete moral chaos. Now, that word takes on new meaning. Everything in life seems to point to an understanding of greater mysteries. Mid-ocean depth which we happily trade for a dip in a hotel pool. At the risk of sounding terribly clichéd, I want to experience depth and the more I seek to understand life, the more I see that pain and sorrow is not as bad as we make it out to be.
Pronunciation: \ˈhē-də-ˌni-zəm\
Etymology: Greek hēdonē pleasure; akin to Greek hēdys sweet
: the doctrine that pleasure or happiness is the sole or chief good in life

The last time I was unceremoniously dumped in the middle of the ocean, it was terribly uncomfortable. Forget the heavy suit and paraphernelia, the unknown recesses of the dark ocean frightened me. Then you experience incredible sights as you touch another world. A little discomfort, forgotten in the wonder of something so unimaginably exotic. The next time things get difficult, I want to be distracted by the coral reef, the multi-coloured schools of fish and the vastness of an otherwise seemingly mundane everyday life.
