My Relationship With My Body

My fitness trainer/kick boxer friend at the gym in Sydney always maintained that a fitness coach's body is his trial lab. It's difficult to train a person when the trainer hasn't been through the process. The process usually involves trial and error. He didn't just hand his clients fitness schedules and walk them through exercises. Instead he'd grill them about their lifestyle and challenge their choices outside the gym. And then give them fitness schedules.

My trial and error started two months ago. I stopped working out at the gym. Instead, I took to cycling, walking and playing sport. I feel energized after a walk in a park or through the city (Sydney). It stimulates my senses. I learned to colour my fitness canvas with a broader brush. I felt great. Still do. Without spending hours in a gym.

On the flip side, I discovered that my body needs to be pushed hard and the only way for me to gain muscle is through a tough gym session. It helps me to play better and harder outside the gym. Nothing wrong with mixing both ideologies. I feel that one supports the other.

Fitness is such a vague concept. The definition and measurement of fitness levels is up to the individual. The day I struggle to clear the six-foot wall of my parking lot to get to my car because of a locked gate... I'll accept my friends calling my cheeks fat!
