There are two things of interest that I have noticed on Sydney streets over the past year. The first is bike paths built on main roads, making bike riding safer, fun and quicker. The second trend is a move towards car share. GoGet and MrCarClub are two companies that have an increasing fleet of sporty cars ideal for driving around the city.
I don't drive enough to justify buying a car and rental companies are too much work. Car share is such a brilliant solution, not just for occasional drivers like me. The cars are parked in allocated spaces all over major cities. The doors are operated using a swipe card. It takes longer to access a car from my apartment garage than the closest GoGet car spot. Rental is by the hour and there's no insurance, servicing or registration hassles on the car. It's quite convenient. And a brilliant business idea. Now, I don't have to buy a mini, I just borrow it for a quick spin.
