Equip and Empower

Truly successful people seem to have a desire to develop people. They want those around them to succeed. They create avenues for the propogation of success, instead of competing for sole ownership. It's no secret that the earth is abundant in supplying resources to anyone willing to work hard and apply their brains. Yet, by and large, people continue to act as though wealth is limited and if they gain, someone has to lose. Imagine instead, if each one of us used our gifts, our natural talents to make someone's life better. Our goal should be to equip and empower people, just as others equip and empower us.

Three simple ways to equip and empower a person:

  1. Encourage. Speak life. Even when a person makes a mistake. Especially when a person makes a mistake.
  2. Be positive. Even in outrageous circumstances. There's enough negativity around us to add our voice to the hill of despair. Your positive attitude could well be a lifeline for someone struggling to see the silver lining on a cloud.
  3. Create opportunities. This gets personal and risky. It involves you creating opportunities for yourself first. Eight years ago, a friend of mine coaxed me in to going salsa dancing with her. I would never have imagined how that little adventure would create opportunities for me to teach salsa. But, it doesn't stop there, I create opportunities for others to teach and express their talent. It starts with me exploring to seek a fuller expression to life.

One of my goals is to live a life that equips and empowers people. It could be as simple as helping someone get a job, teaching a few dance moves, speaking words of encouraging or simply believing in a person's potential and verbalising that belief.
