Stringing Words in the Air

Why do our physical hurts heal naturally, but not our emotional ones? A cut on the hand is gradually covered by skin and returns to its normal function. A cut to the heart (not in the literal sense), requires initiative. I'm finding that love is the skin that covers.

I heard someone talk about reconciliation: 'It takes one person to forgive, but two to reconcile.' It then sometimes takes years for reconciliation to build into trust and for forgiveness to turn into forgetfulness. At a basic level, you find all these words tied together. They don't work in separation, but in unison: love.patience.forgiveness.reconciliation.hope.trust.relationships.life.

Words which, like streamers that spell 'Happy Birthday', wait for ever to be displayed on the walls of our existence. But when they do get put up for display, the white wall isn't dull anymore. The dirt gets wiped away and it's suddenly alright to bring people into our homes. Our inner sanctuaries where we hide the real us.

If only we could wear reminders on ourselves that life is about relationships.
