Have bike... will ride

In the absence of an effective public transport system, single-user motor vehicles have become the norm. Statistics show that vehicular growth in Hyderabad is now as high as 1.5 lakhs per annum. As a result, we have more vehicles crowding the roads, lack of parking space, increased pollution, decreased public health, reduced concern for other road users, increased incidents of road rage, time delays.

The most effective and logical response to air pollution, of course, is to drive less, consume less, and thereby reduce what you are, directly and indirectly, pumping into your city's atmosphere. No one is greener in this regard than bicycle commuters - and no one, ironically, breathes more traffic exhaust.

Like a fellow once said - Ain't that a kick in the head?
