Celebrating Others' Victories

I pulled over at a traffic light with a bag of leftover rice. An old lady, begging at the intersection snatched it off me, before her friend could reach my car. The second lady knocked on my window. "Sorry," I mouthed silently, shrugging my shoulders. I had nothing to give her. I watched through my side mirror as the second lady ran up to the first one, with an angry expression. They exchanged words.

How strange! The lady could be mad at me for giving her friend the rice and nothing to her. Instead, she got mad at her accomplice. Small deal for most of us - a bag of rice. We all have our bags of rice. It's that something we wish God had given us and not to that other person! Why do others have it better than us? How did we miss out on certain qualities and gifts?

Time and chance happen to us all. The old lady happened to be at the right place at the right time. The other woman might receive a better lunch later - it's hard to say. Too often, we get caught up in analysing what we've missed. Instead, let's see the bigger picture: time and chance will happen to all of us.
