Win The War Against Distraction

It takes serious discipline to be... disciplined about anything! The best bits of achievement are realised only when distractions are curtailed. The art of discipline needs to be applied to any work that has purpose. Daily office work, planning, creative work, essays, assignments, even important conversations.
The biggest threat to our productivity is allowed distractions. For the most part, we have the power to control the distractions which force our attention away from what needs to be addressed.

Here are three helpful shields against the probing attack of distractions:

  1. Disconnect: Go someplace with no internet. However serious your work might be, being connected to the online world is never going to help your cause. Switch your phone on airplane mode.
  2. Disengage: Find a quiet spot far away from the enticing cries of family and friends/work colleagues. The next best thing is to plug in a pair of headphones and practice your best, "Don't mess with me frown."
  3. Destroy: Train your thoughts. Don't follow rabbit trails, stick to the task and remind yourself constantly to focus. Annihilate any negative, anxious thoughts. If you are strictly unable to concentrate because of other pressing matters, best to address them and return to focus fully on what you have to accomplish.
