High School Stuff Is Helpful

I saw Rick twice at the gym, with the same book in hand. A thick, slightly academic-looking book with the onerous title - "The Information," (by James Gleick). My curiosity aroused, I asked him about the book, it led to an interesting conversation. The Information is a history of knowledge transmission, the process of sharing information since history was recorded. Rick said he was at the chapter about Babbage.

    "Have you heard of him?"
"Charles Babbage, the man considered to be the father of the modern computer? Yeah, I read about him in high school."

Somewhere in the recess of my memory, information about Charles Babbage made its way through connected neurons and fuelled our conversation. Information recited in high school in a Computer Science class. The stuff you learn in school is very relevant and useful. Information that is either practical or ends up as fodder for good conversations.
