A Cop Pinched My Cheeks!

A familiar-looking policeman stared at me at the traffic light. My car was well behind the stop line. He waved at me, motioning me to move forward. I obliged, waving back with a smile. He knocked on my window, waited for me to pull it down, reached in and pinched my cheeks.

I looked at his badge, "Mohd. Hussain." Twenty years ago, this gentleman directed traffic flow at the busy intersection outside school. He helped me cross the busy street as a child. He asked about my parents and I asked about his children. I was surprised he recognized me.

Sunlight bounced off this man's helmet as he tried his best to control unruly traffic. Watching him, I was reminded why we need to respect authority. Especially the police, they are for our safety. It hurts to see young men driving without a license, ignoring policemen and endangering cops who pull them aside for their evasive behaviour. If you're going to be silly enough to drive illegally, you may as well own up when caught.
