Shaping Ideology And Stephen King's Book 'On Writing'

My ideologies are shaped by what I read. Each book or magazine chips away or adds to my existing worldview. I choose authors who are able to translate personal experiences into smart observations. Witty authors with (slightly) controversial proposals. Such writers make no attempt to cater to the masses in conveying information. They challenge comfort and appeal for action from the reader.

Stories have a powerful impact. Authors who are comfortable telling their own story in prose are  mighty interesting. I recently read Stephen King's "On Writing." The book is part biography, part instruction on good writing. It's a worthwhile read even if writing is not your primary calling.
    Quotes from the book:
  • And if you do it (writing) for joy, you can do it forever. Writing is not life, but I think that sometimes it can be a way back to life.
  • (On the feeling before you start writing) - The scariest moment is always just before you start. After that things can only get better.
  • Writing isn't about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid or making friends. In the end, it's about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life as well. It's about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay?
  • Writing is magic, as much the water of life as any other creative art. The water isfree. So drink. Drink and be filled up.
