A year ago, I wrote a couple of blog entries (Cheap Thrills? and Cheap Thrills Part II), about a group of male prostitutes in Secunderabad. I wanted to help them, but didn't know how. My attempts at inviting them to Saturday night Church for a snack and coffee ended when I nearly got beat up by a very nasty pimp!
Now, I understand the importance of a good support system. A group of people who share a similar passion to help others, expecting nothing in return (despite anyone's claim that there is no such thing as true altruism). I'm going shopping for mattresses for the kids at Shunem Home today. People have already donated/pledged support, without me having to ask and I'd like to acknowledge all the support from my friends. I used to feel awkward asking for help, but it just may prevent my face getting bloodied by pimps and prostitutes ;)
