Simplify, baby - Simplify!

I'm a declutterer. I hate hoarding and the combined weight of old, read books, 100s of CDs, clothes that I no longer wear, just junk in general has a very disturbing effect on my senses. I like my room to be neat, with space to move around. I'm all into the minimalistic way of doing things. It has nothing to do with the Feng Shui principle of 'The state of your room is a good indication of the state of your life'. Cleaning up my life would be a lot more complicated than clearing the mess in my room.
My mum is a hoarder. She saves up pretty much everything she can get her hands on. Her justification - 'We might need it sometime'. Right!!! Like the Christmas tree that was literally falling apart. Or, the mop which fell apart 'cos mum lost the screw. Ancient utensils, packed away in boxes in the kitchen, crockery we never use. I have to spend quality time every week going through every inch of the house, cleaning out things that missed my notice.
Why hold onto things that don't really serve a purpose, except take up space? When I get married, my wife better be a declutterer too, otherwise, I can guess what our first domestic will be all about!
