Giving people right of way!

I drove out of my aparment block this evening and was forced to wait for a Jeep to move out of the middle of the road. What was he doing in the middle of the road? Dropping someone off, who took 5 minutes to cross the expanse between vehicular comfort and the hardness of concrete. I kept honking, but he wouldn't buge, eventually reversed so I could carry on. The driver gave me a greasy but I was on the right, he had no business parking in the middle of the road! Moving on to the main road, I nearly knocked out pedestrians who treat the footpath as sacred ground, not to be stepped on. Next, I had to steer out of the way of an idiot who was driving on the wrong side of the road...
That's the story of my driving life in Hyderabad - all the time, all over the place. It doesn't irk me that I'm surrounded by nicompoops, it irks me that these nc's haven't got the foggiest about traffic rules and they get annoyed at ppl who actually obey them! Even the cops are useless - infact, I get pushed off the road atleast once a day by police vehicles.
If you're ever involved in an accident in Hyderabad, never argue! Its never the other guy's fault and he will not step down. Even if he was driving on the wrong side of the road, without a helmet and a license - he will curse you for not watching out and steering out of his way. If you get the police involved, they'll suggest you pay off the other guy and give them money too, for helping you out! Oh, if you manage to find a mechanic to fix the other guy's vehicle (to get him off your back) - you'll get quoted exorbitant prices cos you dress nice and speak Engish!
This place doesn't reward ppl who live right. If you obey traffic rules, chances are you'll end up in more trouble than if you don't! I'm not budging though - gonna continue sticking to lanes, indicating, stick to speed limit (what is that, anyway?), stop at red lights (even if a cop asks me to ignore it, which has happened, btw), park legally and be courteous on the road.
Have I got solutions to fix the chaos on the roads, maybe... but I'm afraid I might get driven over on my way to the Parliament House!
